Colossians 2:6-7 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
Living in a big city, people tend to get their fair share of walking whether it’s walking to the train or bus station, walking to school or work, or walking to exercise, walking has become a daily routine in the lives of many. It requires individuals to move in a certain direction and/or pursue a course of action.
As believers, the Lord desires for us to walk in godliness and pursue righteous living. According to the 1828 Noah’s Webster dictionary, the word walk is defined as “Pursuing a particular course of life” further emphasized as: living in obedience to God’s commands, living in the firm belief of the gospel and its promises, relying on Christ for salvation, and to be guided by the counsels and influences of the Spirit and by the Word of God. In other words, we are to faithfully walk in accordance to God’s standards while living a life fully surrendered to Him. Walking in the Lord’s ways will require you and I to study and meditate on His Word, maintain an active prayer life, and to remain in fellowship with other like-minded believers. Training your mind to focus on pure and godly thoughts is another biblical principle that is essential to your walk with Christ.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
Walking in godliness can be challenging at times considering the fallen world we live in as well as the growing hostility towards the Christian faith. Our walks with the Lord can not be be lived out in our own strength, so it’s critical that we fully rely and depend on the Lord at all times. He will be faithful to infuse us with His Holy Spirit’s power and strength to walk in a continuous pursuit of godliness. It’s a choice that we each have to make on a daily basis. There is no middle ground. If you are not walking according to the Lord’s ways, you are lukewarm in your faith. This will hinder your growth in the Lord causing you to experience broken fellowship with Him. I say this because I was that compromised Christian over 20 years ago. I had made a first time commitment to follow the Lord, but looking back, it was just an emotional experience. Although I was attending church on a weekly basis, my heart was far from the Lord and I didn’t take my walk with Him seriously. My life did not reflect the inward transformation of a new creation. It was the very opposite: a double lifestyle. I lived like that for many years until Jesus got a hold of my heart at the age of 33. In that season, I faced a horrific storm which caused me to run to the Lord for comfort and help resulting in my life being rededicated back to Him. As I began my relationship with Him, the Lord has shown me through His Word that my life should always reflect a continuous walk towards godliness and obedience to Him. As His children, we should always represent Him well in our actions, in our words, and in our daily lives. Remaining close to Him will give us the desire to walk in obedience towards Him in every season of our lives. Ladies, my encouragement to you is to relentlessly walk towards, remain, abide, dwell, adhere, endure, follow, and obey the Lord in all things. Walk towards godliness.
Galatians 5:16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
1 Timothy 4:8 For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.
