Attribute #7 – God’s Wisdom!
Proverbs 4:4-8 Then he taught me and said to me, “Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments and live; acquire wisdom! Acquire understanding! Do not forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth. “Do not forsake her, and she will guard you; love her, and she will watch over you. “The beginning of wisdom is: acquire wisdom; and with all your acquiring, get understanding. Prize her, and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her.
1828 Webster’s Dictionary of Wisdom: The right use or exercise of knowledge; the knowledge and fear of God; and sincere and uniform obedience to His commands.
What is wisdom? It is the skill to achieve the most perfect ends by the most perfect means. Both the means and the ends have to be worthy of God. Wisdom is the ability to see the end from the beginning, to see everything in proper relation and in full focus. It is to judge in view of final and ultimate ends and to work toward those ends with flawless precision. – The Attributes of God (Volume 2) by A.W. Tozer (Pgs. 138 – 139)
The wisdom of God is seen in His creation and in His redemption, in that God has planned the highest good for the highest number for the longest time. God always thinks in terms of eternity. When God plans to bless a man, He takes that poor, little, time-cursed creature in His hand and says, “My son, I breathe into you eternity and immortality; I let you share in My endlessness.” If you really knew how long you were privileged to live and to be with God, you would rejoice! God Almighty has planned that you shall not only enjoy Him now, but for all the eternities to come. And it’s for the greatest number and the highest good. – The Attributes of God (Volume 2) by A.W. Tozer (Pgs. 140 – 141)
In reading A.W. Tozer’s book on God’s Attributes, he highlights the wisdom of God vs. the wisdom of man. What will we choose? Will we allow God to rule over our lives as our personal Lord and Savior or will we sit in the driver seat and go in the direction of where man says to go?
The bible tells us in James 1:5, If anyone lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. As believers, we should always ask God for His wisdom in every single area of our lives and in all our situations. Maybe you are in a dating relationship and you want to know if the person is God’s best for you and whether you should marry them or not? Thinking about moving to another city, state, or country? Are you considering a career move? Do you have travel plans? Contemplating a new car purchase, new home, or property renovations? Are you considering investing financially? Are you thinking about switching health plans? What college to attend? Or maybe it’s something as simple as buying a new outfit, skincare products, a new phone, etc? Do you really need a new outfit, more makeup/skincare or a new phone when there is nothing wrong with the one you have now? These are all things that have crossed our minds at one point or another. And as big and small as these situations are, we should go directly to God’s Word and pray to Him and seek His wisdom in all these areas, heed His voice, and follow His direction as He leads us. We can trust that God knows what’s best for each of us and He will graciously give us His wisdom in whatever we ask of Him according to His perfect will for our lives. We run into problems when we think we know better than God. We tend to lean on our own understanding and choose man’s ways instead of the righteous ways of the All Knowing God. Let’s look at what A.W. Tozer has to say about this:
The point is that it’s either got to be God’s wisdom or yours. It’s either God’s way or yours. All that you and I have lived for, hoped for and dreamed over in our heart of hearts – life, safety, happiness, heaven, immortality, the presence of God – hinges on whether you’re going to accept the ultimate wisdom of the Triune God, as revealed in the Scriptures and in His providential working in mankind. Or are you going to go your own way? – The Attributes of God (Volume 2) by A.W. Tozer (Pg. 144)
I’ve got to decide whether I shall go my way or trust blindly in the wisdom of God. But if a man wants his own way, the Lord will let him go his own way. We have to decide as Christians whether we insist on our plans and ambitions, or whether we will take God’s way. If we insist upon our plans and ambitions, we imperil everything we have, because we lack the wisdom to know how to do it. You dare not run your life. – The Attributes of God (Volume 2) by A.W. Tozer (Pgs. 146 – 147)
I encourage you to willingly, obediently, and joyfully always choose God’s ways and heed His wisdom in all your situations. He knows what’s best for all of us and He will never lead any of us astray. He is Faithful!🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Psalm 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.
Isaiah 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things which have not been done, saying, ‘My purpose will be established, and I will accomplish all My good pleasure.
The wise God always thinks of your highest good, for the longest time. He always does what he does with flawless precision, seeing the end from the beginning, never making any mistakes and never asking anything from you that you can’t do or don’t have. He never makes any unfair demands, but knows you’re flesh and treats you with a heart of compassion. Whatever He commands, He gives you the power to obey the command – always. You can trust this kind of God. – The Attributes of God (Volume 2) by A.W. Tozer (Pgs. 147 – 148)
