Attribute #3 – GOD is Immutable!
Malachi 3:6 “For I, the Lord, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.”
1828 Webster’s Dictionary Definition of Immutable: Not capable or susceptible of change.
When we read the verse above in Malachi 3:6, it reveals the true nature of God➡️He’s the Lord and He Himself never changes!
In The Attributes of God (Volume 2) by A.W. Tozer (Pg. 97), he writes, “Incidently, He’s the only One in the universe that can say that. And He did say it! He simply says that He never changes, that there is no change possible in God. God never differs from Himself. If you get ahold of this, it can be to you an anchor in the storm, a hiding place in danger. There is no possibility of changing in God. And God never differs from Himself.”
As humans, we are subject to change, our circumstances change, our jobs may change, our living situations may change, and our finances may change. And so forth.
Our world is changing. During our nationwide pandemic, there were changes brought to every household. Everyone was and still is affected in some way by the events that took place. Sometimes, we may not grasp or completely understand why things happen. But we can hold on to our Anchor, our Rock, our Refuge, our Strong Tower, Jesus Christ Who is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). The world around us is constantly changing, but our Lord never changes! He remains the same and even though things are out of our control, we can trust that He always has a plan and a purpose for each of our lives which includes our circumstances.
Jeremiah 29:11 says, ‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.’
I encourage you all to hold unto the Lord. Trust in His sovereignty and believe that He is in control. He is not moved or shaken by our circumstances or what’s going on in our world today. The same God Who blessed Abraham and Sarah with the son of promise when they were well passed childbearing years; the same God Who raised up Joseph to be the Governor of the land after his brothers sold him into slavery; the same God Who parted the Red Sea for the Israelites to cross over on dry land is still the same God today. He’s the same God Who will make a way for you, provide for all of your needs, work out your circumstances according to His will and purpose, give you His peace and comfort in the midst of your storms, and fulfill all the promises He has declared over your life. He remains the same and He promises to never leave nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5b).
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
If you turn to Him for clearer light, you’ll find He is the same Jesus as when He gave the blind their sight-the very same Jesus. He’ll feed you as He fed the multitude, He’ll calm you as He calmed the sea. He’ll bless you as He blessed the children. He’ll give you eternal life as He gave eternal life to His people. He’ll wash you as He washed their feet, back there. He’s the same! The God we preach is the same God, unchanging and unchangeable, forever and ever. The Attributes of God, Volume 2 by A.W. Tozer (Pg. 111)
