Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
Have you ever been hesitant to share your faith due to fear, rejection, or maybe you just didn’t feel like it? Personally, I struggled with all three of these emotions. There have been times where I shared my faith with complete strangers; however, initiating these conversations were not easy. The fear of rejection gripped my heart as I silently prayed for the best way to engage each person. When you are sharing your faith, I believe having a good approach is a key component which will set the tone for the conversation. You must be careful not to scare them off nor intimidate them in anyway. Normally, I’ll start the convo with a kind gesture by saying hello and how are you? FYI: My target audience is women of all ages. In order not to give the wrong impression or create a misunderstanding, I generally do not engage men when I’m sharing my faith. This statement is not to demean or put down men by any means. Everyone needs to hear the Gospel. In my case, the Lord has a placed a special love in my heart to share with and encourage women while pointing them to Jesus. However, if the Lord has called you to speak to all people regardless of their gender, please, by all means do so. Everyone of us has a unique calling.
As I prepare to share my faith while engaging someone in conversation, I usually throw in an ice breaker question depending on the setting or location such as “What type of latte did you order?” if we are in a coffee house. If it’s a retail store, I may ask, “What type of dresses do you like?” And so forth. The key is to engage the person in conversation and make them feel comfortable before you move into that area of sharing your faith. If the conversation is flowing, I’ll share with them what church I attend followed up with a question of “Where do they fellowship?” Depending on her answer, I’ll begin to ask more questions in a non-threatening way including, “What do you believe?”, “Do you understand what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus?”, etc. When I’ve asked these questions and shared my faith, the responses were quite interesting. Here are some feedback from different people:
“Well, I go to church.”
“I’m not a religious person.”
“It doesn’t matter what your religion is, as long as you believe in God, you are going to Heaven.”
“I’m a good person and as long as I live a good life and do the right thing, I’m going to Heaven.”
“I believe in Jesus. He was a prophet, but He’s not the Son of God. God has no kids.”
“Essentially, we believe the same thing regardless of our religions.”
These statements were from well meaning people, sadly who do not know the truth of God’s Word. I can relate because I use to have the same false beliefs when I was younger. Raised as a Catholic, I grew up believing as long as I went to church and lived a good life, I was okay with God. If anything happened to me, I knew I was going to Heaven. Nothing can be further from the truth! That’s why it’s so important for us to share our faith in our sphere of influence. There is a vast amount of people believing the lies of the enemy. The forces of darkness will love to hinder us from sharing who it is and what we believe in. It’s scary, I know! But we must persevere and be fearless when it comes to sharing the truth of the Gospel.
Here are some practical steps to take before and while you are sharing your faith:
– PRAY, PRAY, PRAY, and PRAY much more.
– Ask the Lord to equip you, fill you with His Holy Spirit, give you a heart of wisdom, anoint your lips, and give you the right words to say to each person(s).
– Ask Him to give you divine appointments and for you to recognize and seize each opportunity He sends your way.
– Pray for His perfect timing.
– Pray that He will take away any fears or doubts you may have.
– Pray for His boldness and His strength.
– Pray that He will help you to initiate each conversation.
– While you are speaking to the person(s), silently pray for His covering over the entire conversation and remain yielded to His leading as it comes to a close. (You never know, you may end up leading that person to Christ.)
Ladies, we need to be bold as lions and step out in faith while sharing the Good News of Jesus with this lost and dying world. Everyone, including us needs hope which can only be found in a personal relationship in Christ alone.
Romans 10:15b “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!”
Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go Therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
2 Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Timoth 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
1 Peter 1:3-5 Blessed be The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
