Luke 10:40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”
According to the standard dictionary, the term Distraction is defined as “An object that directs one’s attention away from something else.” All of us face distractions of some sort most of the time especially when we are doing the work of the Lord. Distractions can occur in a variety of ways such as incoming text messages, phone calls, social media alerts, the wrong thoughts, or anyone or anything that will try to divert you away from God’s divine appointments, His kingdom work, and important responsibilities. By no means am I conveying that texts or calls are a bad thing. In some cases, there will be emergencies and those phone calls and text messages need to be taken into consideration as they are your priority in the moment. I’m referring to interruptions of lesser importance. When we are called to do the Lord’s work or take care of our daily responsibilities, we shouldn’t allow distractions to get in the way. We need to prioritize and remain focused. There is a time and a place for everything.
As women we can become distracted with different things and our relationships. We should prayerfully make it our priority to spend time in God’s Word and in prayer everyday. We shouldn’t allow the busyness of life to conflict with our quiet time with the Lord. I share this because I’ve met women who say, “Well I don’t have time to read the Bible.” I can relate as I had the same mindset many years ago. But the truth of the matter is, we will make a priority for what is important to us and God’s Word and an active prayer life is highly important. We need His instructions, wisdom, direction, and strength to live a life that is well pleasing to Him. Cling tightly to Him and rely on His strength alone. Don’t allow the wrong people or less important things become a distraction in your life and pull you away from Him, your calling, and your responsibilities. Remain focused, read your Bible daily (allow His Word to minister to your heart), actively pray according to His perfect plan and purpose for your life, persevere, don’t allow your emotions to lead you; instead, follow the Spirit’s leading and fulfill your calling.
Luke 10:41-42 And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
