Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it.
For the most part, people have busy schedules and daily routines that play an active role in their day-to-day living. Whether it’s going to the gym, working a full time job, attending school, or involved in some type of recreational activity or hobby, these things can keep a person very busy.
I keep a tight schedule too which includes working full time, writing, attending church, and spending time with family and friends. In the midst of it all, I really enjoy spending quality time with my Savior, JESUS CHRIST through the daily reading and meditation of His Holy Word. I prefer the morning hours before I start my day, so I can commit my whole day to Him. But to be honest, it doesn’t always work out in this sense. There are times I’ll sleep too long which makes it challenging to have my daily communion with the Lord in the morning. However, I make it a priority to set quality time aside in the latter part of my day to do so. I absolutely look forward to it. Just as I need food and water for my physical nourishment, I need the Word of God for my spiritual nourishment. As I read and meditate on His Word, I’m feeding myself spiritually while God continues to transform and mold me into the image of His Son, Jesus Christ.
Ladies, I highly encourage you all to make it a priority to spend quality time with the Lord through the daily reading and meditation of His Word. You may argue that you don’t have the time, but the truth of the matter is that you will make time for what is important to you. Reading God’s Word over the years has changed and continues to change my life. It strengthens my faith in Christ, deepens my trust in Him, it affirms His deep and everlasting love for me, it convicts me of my sins, it teaches me about the ways of the Lord and His standards for living a godly life, it reminds me of my constant need for my Savior, and it points me to the cross. Also as I read and meditate on the Word of God, I’m more inclined to obey Him, accept His will for my life vs. my own will while allowing His Holy Spirit (the Spirit of Truth) to lead and guide me in the way I should go. In addition to these things, God gives me His peace, wisdom, and spiritual discernment in all my situations as I read and follow His Word. God’s Word is living and powerful, and it changes and transforms lives.
Beautiful ladies, God’s Word is His love letter to you. As you read and meditate on it, your First Love, Savior, Redeemer, Eternal Husband, Provider, Protector, Counselor, the King of kings, the Lord of lords, the Creator of the universe, the Great I AM will meet you right where you are at and speak directly to your heart. Do not miss or neglect your daily fellowship with the Lord. Jesus loves you with an everlasting love and He desires and wants to have a close relationship with you as His daughter. Spend quality time each day with your Bridegroom by reading His love letter to you.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
1 John 2:5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Simple Tips for Reading and Meditating on GOD’S WORD:
*Set quality time aside each day to read and meditate on God’s Word whether it’s in the morning, at noon, or in the evening.
*Use a bible translation that is easy for you to read and understand. I love the NKJV, but if you are looking for a modern version, I recommend the NLT or NASB.
*Have a bible reading plan. Sone people use different methods to reading the Bible. Some choose a certain book (e.g. Proverbs, John, Philippians, 1 & 2 Timothy, etc) and read it in its entirety. Others read the Old and New Testament books together. No method is wrong; however, its ideal to read from beginning to end, starting with the book of Genesis and finishing with Revelation. I have a one-year bible that I use as my daily reading plan. Each day it gives me selected passages to read from so I can read through the Bible in a year. I take my time reading through it disregarding the time frame. I don’t want to breeze through it and miss out on what God is saying to me. Ladies, I encourage you not to rush through God’s Word, but take your time reading and meditating on it. It’s ok if you don’t finish in the allotted time. The important thing is to read His Word with a heart that is open and ready to receive what the Lord has to say to you as His daughter.
*Spend at least 15 minutes each day in His Word. Before you begin your daily reading, always say a short prayer and ask God to speak to your heart and give you His wisdom and understanding of His Word. When you are done reading, thank God for who He is and for speaking to you through His Word.
*Conclude your time by praying to the Lord. Pray and ask Him to help you faithfully submit to His authority, accept His plans for your life, and to continually mold you into the godly woman He desires you to be. Also, pray to Him for any other requests you may have and ask Him to prepare your heart to accept His will and plan for all your situations.
1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 Pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
