Psalm 23:2b He leads me beside the still waters.
Water determines the vitality, strength, and vigor of the sheep and is essential to its health and general well-being. (A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 by W. Phillip Keller, Pg. 58)
And in precisely the same manner Christ, our Good Shepherd, made it clear that thirsty souls of men and women can only be satisfied when their capacity and thirst for spiritual life is fully quenched by drawing on Himself. (A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 by W. Phillip Keller, Pg. 59)
Only the Lord can satisfy our thirsty souls. Oftentimes, people will drink from the empty cisterns of this world thinking they will bring ultimate fulfillment. No pursuit, relationship, person(s), career, material possession nor status in life will satisfy the deepest longings of your heart. Only Jesus can bring lasting satisfaction. So I encourage you ladies to always drink from the wells of His living waters. Just as we need physical water to nourish our bodies, we need God’s living waters to refresh our souls. By feeding and meditating on God’s Word daily is how we nourish our spirits. Pray and ask God to give you an earnest desire to rise early each morning in order for you to have quality and a sweet time of fellowship with Him through the reading of His word and praying actively in the Spirit. Your soul will be nourished, you will be at peace with God, and He will give you His strength to walk through each day while facing any challenges that will come your way. We are not exempt from trials ladies. John 16:33 reminds us that we will have tribulation in this world, BUT be of good cheer for Christ has overcome the world. And He promises to never leave nor forsake us. He will give us His peace which surpasses all understanding in trying times. Trust the Lord always, abide in Him, cling to Him, and continuously drink from the wells of His life-giving water. It is there you will find lasting satisfaction and complete fulfillment.
John 4:13-14 Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
In the Christian life it is of more than passing significance to observe that those who are often the most serene, most confident, and able to cope with life’s complexities are those who rise early each day to feed on God’s Word. It is in the quiet, early hours of the morning that they are led beside the quiet, still waters where they imbibe the very life of Christ for the day. (A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 by W. Phillip Keller, Pg. 61)
It is there that I will discover He only can really satisfy me. It is He who makes sense and purpose and meaning come out of situations… Suddenly life starts to have significance. I discover I am the object of His special care and attention. Dignity and direction come into the events of my life, and I see them sorting themselves out into a definite pattern of usefulness. All of this is refreshing, stimulating, invigorating. My thirst for reality in life is assuaged, and I discover that I have found that satisfaction in my Master. (A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 by W. Phillip Keller, Pg. 65)
