Psalm 23:1a The Lord is my Shepherd.
Sheep do not “just take care of themselves” as some might suppose. They require, more than any other class of livestock, endless attention and meticulous care. He (the Lord) literally lays Himself out for us continually. He is ever interceding for us; He is ever guiding us by His gracious Spirit; He is ever working on our behalf to ensure that we will benefit from His care. (A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 by W. Phillip Keller, Pg. 22)
The Lord is our Shepherd Who deeply loves and cares for us as the sheep of His pasture. He is concerned about every detail of our lives. With this in mind, we should willing and joyfully lay all of our cares at His feet trusting and believing in His sovereignty. The psalmist says in Psalm 139:1-3 O Lord, You have searched me and known me, You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, and are intimately acquainted with all my ways. The Bible also says in Luke 12:7, Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows. The Lord, our Savior, Creator, and Bridegroom knows us all very well. And this should encourage us to sweetly and obediently surrender every area of our lives to Him knowing and believing that He is our Faithful and Good Shepherd Who will continue to love, protect, watch over us, and keep us safe in His loving arms. He will always tend to His sheep! The Lord is our One and Only Shepherd!☝🏽🙌🏽☝🏽🙌🏽☝🏽🙌🏽
I can exclaim proudly, just as David did, “The Lord is my Shepherd!” And I’m thrilled to belong to Him, for it is thus that I shall flourish and thrive no matter what life may bring to me. (A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 by W. Phillip Keller, Pg. 27)
