Ephesians 4:1-3 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
In the above verse, Paul is encouraging the church at Ephesus to walk worthy of God’s calling upon each of their lives. According to the 1828 Webster’s Dictionary, the word, “beseech” has several meanings. One definition is identified as “to ask or pray with urgency”. In other words, Paul is fervently praying for the Ephesian believers to honor the call of God upon their lives and to take it seriously.
As believers, we each have been entrusted with a spiritual gift(s) and we have been called by God to exercise those gifts in order to advance His kingdom during our time here on earth. We all have a significant part to play, and all of our roles are important in the eyes of God. Oftentimes, we pray and ask God to show us our gifts and reveal His plan for our lives, but when He does, we don’t approve or agree with it. It’s probably not what we had in mind or what we envisioned. So we gripe and complain. But we have to remember that God’s plans are far better than our own plans. He sees the bigger picture, we don’t.
Isaiah 55:8-9 says, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”
We have to trust Him and believe that He knows what’s best for each one of us. If we decide to live outside of God’s will or go our own way, we will always be miserable, lack peace, and fail in the end. Instead of pushing God’s plan aside, we need to pray and ask the Lord to change our hearts, faithfully embrace His calling over our lives, completely rely on Him to live it out, and trust Him for the road ahead. I have to believe that neither one of us wants someone else to live out the call or the plan that God has ordained over each of our lives due to disobedience and/or a lack of faith. Trust Him! He’s a good God and a Loving Father and He knows what’s best for His kids. All of the Lord’s ways are perfect!
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
Psalm 18:30 As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.
