Attribute #5 – GOD is Faithful!
Deuteronomy 7:9 “Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments.”
1828 Webster’s Dictionary Definition of Faithfulness: Truth; Loyalty; Firm adherence to allegiance and duty.
God is faithful! He will remain faithful because He cannot change. He is perfectly faithful, because God is never partly anything. God is perfectly all that He is and never partly what He is. You can be sure that God will always be faithful. This faithful God, who never broke a promise and never violated a covenant, who never said one thing and meant another, who never overlooked anything or forgot anything, is the Father of our Lord Jesus and the God of the gospel. This is the God we adore and the God we preach. – The Attributes of God (Volume 2) by A.W. Tozer (Pg. 182)
Reading Tozer’s book on the attribute of God’s faithfulness is very encouraging. Personally, I’ve seen and continue to experience God’s faithfulness in my life over the years and everyday. He never fails!
I will like to share a story with you. In 2010, my dad’s health started to decline. We were advised by his doctor that it would be in my dad’s best interest to be placed in a long term care facility. This was a very difficult and challenging decision. I was frightened and fearful while my dad was very angry. He didn’t want to go and even though I knew it was the best option for my dad, I didn’t want my dad to be mistreated. So I fervently sought God through prayer for wisdom and guidance while reaching out to my family and sisters in Christ for support. It was a scary time but they all rallied around me, prayed for my dad and I, and assisted me in choosing a facility. This was only the beginning! If you are familiar with the costs associated with board and care facilities as well as assisted living facilities, you know they can be very expensive. This was my next challenge! His care needed to be paid for and I had to trust God to take care of the ongoing expenses when all my financial resources were exhausted. And God did! He is Faithful! After conversations with my dad’s social worker and physician, they advised me to contact the VA and inquire on my dad’s benefits since he was an Army Veteran. After filling out and completing mounds of paperwork, my dad’s VA benefits were approved which covered the monthly costs for his care. There was still a long road ahead. My dad became very angry with me for placing him in an assisted living facility. Our relationship was rocky for eight months. But God began mending our relationship as father and daughter. Shortly after, my dad gave his life to Christ in 2011. He went home to be with the Lord in 2012.
In the midst of that trial, I witnessed and experienced God’s faithfulness and saw His victorious hand of favor work mightily every step of the way. God is and will always remain Faithful! My dad wasn’t saved in the beginning of that trial! But God used that whole situation to draw my dad to Himself and now he’s safely home in the Savior’s arms. Going through that situation has deepened my faith and trust in God! It showed me how faithful God is and how He works all things together for our good. To God be the Glory!
I encourage you all to firmly keep your trust in the Lord while holding fast to Him always. Oftentimes we don’t understand or see the big picture, but God does! He is and will always remain faithful! Lean into Him and He will (not maybe so or hopefully), He will walk with you and bring you through all of your storms. He will never leave nor forsake you! The Lord is Faithful!
2 Timothy 2:13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.
Isaiah 43:2 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you.”
This is the kind of God you’re serving: All that God says or does must accord with all of His attributes, including His attribute of faithfulness. Every thought that God thinks, every word that God speaks, every act of God must accord with His faithfulness, wisdom, goodness, justice, holiness, love, truth, and all His other attributes. – The Attributes of God (Volume 2) by A.W. Tozer (Pgs. 177-178)
