Years ago when I was a baby Christian, I remember praying fervently to God for a godly husband. I had a long list of things that I desired in a marriage partner. Some of those wants included my future husband’s physical appearance (his height, his built, the color of his eyes and hair); his personality type; his profession; and many other things. My prayer for a godly husband was according to my own personal standards and not necessarily what the Lord may have wanted. As time passed and the more that I immersed myself in God’s Word, the Holy Spirit began prompting me to pray according to God’s will for a godly mate. This meant praying from a heavenly perspective and praying in line with the Spirit as He led me in my time of intercession. My prayers began to radically change as my heart was inclined to:
*Pray for a godly husband who is deeply in love with Jesus,
*Pray for a godly husband who keeps God first in every area of his life,
*Pray for a godly husband who will always take a bold stand for his faith in Christ and not compromise his walk with the Lord,
*Pray for a godly husband who will always honor God in everything he says and does as well as honor God with his finances and material possessions,
*Pray for a godly man of integrity who is and will continue to live his life in full obedience to Christ,
*Pray for a godly man whose heart reflects the heart of his Savior, Jesus Christ,
*Pray for a godly man who will love Jesus much more than he loves me.
The Lord is Faithful! I highly encourage you all to pray according to God’s standards for a godly husband. If He has made this promise to you, He’s more than able to bring it to pass. The godly husband the Lord has for you is far better than the man you may want according to your own standards. Trust the Lord-He knows best!
Praying God’s way will lead to the Lord’s blessing of a wonderful godly husband who will truly love you as Christ loves the church.
